inDrive Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment To Nigeria’s Mobility Market

Global mobility platform, inDrive, has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Nigeria, saying the country remains a key market for its operations in Africa.

The company’s statement comes following Uber’s decision to exit the Nigerian market, a move inDrive described as “a surprise.”

“Uber has been a strong and significant competitor, and we have always welcomed competition because it drives us to continuously improve our products and services for the benefit of our users,” the company said.

inDrive confirmed it currently operates in major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin City, Ibadan, Owerri, and Enugu, reflecting what it called the depth and breadth of its presence across the country.

The company said it has “consistently grown our active user base year on year” in Nigeria and that its business model is designed to work effectively in emerging markets where affordability is a key consideration for consumers.

A key differentiator for inDrive, the company noted, is its fare structure.

“We offer one of the lowest service fees in the market, at around 10%, while the final ride price is determined directly between the driver and the passenger,” it stated.

“This model gives both parties greater control and enables them to agree on a price that works for them. Unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms, we do not use algorithms to set ride prices.”

inDrive said its commitment to Nigeria extends beyond core ride-hailing. The platform has established economy and courier services, and recently launched ‘Comfort’ to improve service quality, ‘One Click’ to make the user experience more seamless, and ‘TukTuk’ to address micro-mobility needs and provide more accessible transportation options.

The company said it has already made significant investments in the Nigerian market and remains committed to further investing in service quality, safety, technology, and local communities to create long-term value for Nigerians.

It is also developing solutions for mobility investors and fleet owners, helping them put their vehicles to productive use and create additional earning opportunities through the inDrive platform.

With Uber’s exit, inDrive said it welcomes drivers and mobility investors who may be affected to join its platform and continue serving passengers across Nigeria.

“Our goal is to provide drivers with flexible earning opportunities while ensuring passengers continue to have access to affordable, reliable and increasingly diverse mobility services,” the company added.

inDrive operates in more than 700 cities across 48 countries and has positioned affordability and driver-passenger negotiation as central to its model in emerging markets.
