International Youth Day: Ikemba Idemili Celebrates Nigerian Youths, Calls For Greater Investment

Anambra-born billionaire businessman and philanthropist, High Chief Hamilton Ezeonu, Ikemba Idemili, has called for increased investment in Nigerian youths, describing them as the country’s greatest asset for sustainable development.

 

In a statement issued to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, observed globally every August 12, Ezeonu said young Nigerians represent the engine for growth and must be supported with real opportunities.

“The theme for the 2026 International Youth Day, ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond’, also reflected as ‘Different Contexts, Common Aspirations’, underscores the need for tailored support systems that address unique local realities while harnessing the shared drive of young people to build a better future,” Ikemba Idemili said.

 

Ezeonu emphasized that unlocking the potential of Nigerian youths requires deliberate action from both government and the private sector.

“We must move beyond rhetoric and make real investments in education, skills acquisition, technology, and entrepreneurship. Our young people need access to funding, mentorship, and enabling infrastructure to turn their ideas into businesses that create jobs and drive growth,” he stated.

He noted that despite prevailing challenges, Nigerian youths have continued to distinguish themselves in innovation, entertainment, technology, and community service. According to Ikemba Idemili, their resilience and creativity remain key to repositioning the nation for global competitiveness.

The philanthropist added that the 2026 International Youth Day celebration serves as a reminder of the critical role young people play in shaping the future of the nation and the world. He urged stakeholders to use the occasion to renew commitments toward creating opportunities that enable youths to thrive.

Ezeonu further called for increased investment in Nigerian youths, describing it as the surest path to national prosperity.

“If we are serious about development, then we must put our money where our mouth is. Let us invest in our youths through quality education, skills training, access to capital, and digital opportunities. When we empower our young people, we secure the future of Nigeria,” Ikemba Idemili said.

 

He charged government, private sector, and development partners to prioritize youth-focused programs and funding that will translate potential into productivity.
