Islamic Cleric Arrested For Stealing N3.2m Donation For Cancer Patient

A 42-year old Islamic cleric, popular known as Imam Kamiludeen Moshood, has been arrested and brought before a Lagos Court for allegedly stealing N3.2m donations meant for the treatment of a 6-year old boy.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Igando area of Lagos, where Moshood is the Chief Imam of a popular mosque.

It was gathered that the little victim, Amidat Ayomide, was diagnosed of cancer of the eye and the mother, who resides in Ogun State, went to Moshood for spiritual assistance.
It was later discovered that it was a medical problem and the boy needed to go to LUTH for treatment. Appeal was said to have been made to several well meaning Nigerians to donate.
The donations were raised to the said amount and Moshood was said to have used the proceeds to buy a tricycle and landed property.
Hence, the victim was dying until it was discovered that Moshood had used the money meant for the boy’s treatment for his personal use.
The matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division; he was arrested and detained at the station for investigation.

Moshood said that he informed the Police that he used the money to buy a tricycle and a parcel of land with the hope to make profit which he will then use to buy drugs, pay for the treatment of the victim and at the same time back it up with prayers as an Imam.

He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for fraud and he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court to give a date for hearing for the police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N3m with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 17th July, 2019.
