CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
The Islamic cleric, Morufu Fadipe, who turned his 22-year old daughter into a sex slave, may have regained his freedom over the inability of the police and social workers to raise N14,000 required for his prosecution in a Lagos Court.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that there had been blame game for over three weeks between the police and the social workers over the prosecution of Fadipe since he was arrested.
The social workers, who were the complainant in the matter, asked the Ikotun Police Division to charge the matter to Court which the police equally agreed to do.
However, the Police asked the workers to provide the money for transportation and other logistics which amounted to about N14,000 as there was no provision for such at FSU in the Division. P.M.EXPRESS gathered that most cases of abuse at various stations in Lagos were mainly sponsored by Investigation Police Officers through their salaries and some were partly provided by the social workers.
The police had insisted that if the complainants, the social workers, did not provide the fund, the police will have no choice than to allow him to go once he provided credible surety.
But the social workers on the other hand insisted that the primary duties of the police were to arrest and prosecute and that the police should do their job.
P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that the police will need the said amount to prosecute Fadipe including transportation and other logistics which will be needed in Court for the trial.
It was gathered that there was no such provision on the side of the Police as the social workers had been using their salary to prosecute suspects in various areas in the State.
The reason the Police and the Lagos State Government have not deemed it good to mobilize such units were not known but Fadipe’s neighbours expressed concern over the inability to prosecute him. They said that if Fadipe was not prosecuted, then it meant that their female children were no longer safe in the area.
Fadipe was arrested following complaints from the residents who had observed the abuses and assault on the victim.
The police moved in, arrested him and detained at the station for interrogation. The victim then confessed and explained how he had fondled her breasts, inserted fingers into her private part before he penetrated her.
The incident happened at Isheri Oshun area of Lagos where they reside, which prompted the Divisional Police Officer, Ikotun Police Division, CSP Tarzan Tsav, to order for the arrest of the Islamic cleric, for allegedly forcefully engaging his 22-year old daughter in sex romps and turning her into a sex slave. Since then, Fadipe was detained but there was no money to charge him to Court.
