A 29-year old truck driver, Rilwan Rasheed, who was arrested for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry car with registration number LND 142 CQ worth N12m, has confessed that he has been stealing people’s vehicles for a long time before he was eventually caught in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect,  Rasheed, made the confession after the Police operatives from the Commissioner of Police Tactical team Area E Command arrested him for stealing the vehicle belonging to Uche Agbeoze.

The suspect, who hails from Ondo State but lives in Ibadan in Oyo State, came to Lagos on 13th May, 2025, stole the vehicle at FESTAC town and parked the vehicle at a mechanic workshop, where he arranged to sell the vehicle.

However, while he was looking for a buyer, he ran out of luck when he contacted a buyer and gave him the price, which was much cheaper. The buyer suspected foul play and contacted the Police. He was arrested and vehicle was recovered as exhibit.

During interrogation, he confessed to the Police that he had stolen many vehicles including the one belonging to one of his relatives and sold them before he was eventually arrested.

The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

He admitted his offence and pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor,  Inspector Ajayi Emmanuel, then asked the Court to give a date to enable him to present the facts of the matter so that the Court will sentence him accordingly.

The charges read:

“That you, Rilwan Rasheed ‘m’ and others still at large on the 13th day of May, 2025 320hrs at FESTAC area of Lagos State, in the Lagos State Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Adetunji, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the prosecutor will present the facts of the matter to enable the Court to sentence him accordingly since he pleaded guilty before the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 10th June, 2025, for facts and sentence.
