The Secretary to Odeda Local Government and President of the most popular political support group in Ogun Central, Redemption Mission Group (RMG), Hon. Oyekunle Adebayo JP Oba, has described the recent outburst by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo against the Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as unfortunate, disappointing and a clear reflection of the politics of bitterness.

According to Hon. Oyekunle Adebayo JP Oba, “Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo’s hypocrisy knows no bounds.” It is both astonishing and contradictory for someone who repeatedly speaks about selfless service and principled leadership to publicly admit that she demanded reimbursement for campaign expenses and stipends voluntarily distributed during the APC governorship consultation process.

“Politics is built on sacrifice, conviction and service to the people—not on treating political participation as a business investment that must yield financial returns. Genuine progressives make sacrifices for the growth of the party and the advancement of democracy without presenting invoices afterward.”

He noted that by her own public account, Sen. Obasanjo has unfortunately shifted the conversation from issues of governance to personal grievances, thereby creating the impression that political support should be measured by financial compensation rather than commitment to the collective interest of the party and the people.

It is also important to remind the people of Ogun Central that when Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo did not secure the APC governorship ticket, she chose to leave the party and subsequently emerged as the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central. That political decision stands in sharp contrast to the example set by Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), who has also faced political disappointments in the past but remained within the APC, continued to support the party, and worked tirelessly for its growth and success. That is the difference between unwavering loyalty and political convenience. True progressives do not abandon their political family because of temporary setbacks; they stay, build, support and strengthen it. The people of Ogun Central are discerning enough to judge which path truly reflects character, consistency and commitment to the progressive cause.

Hon. Oyekunle further stated that rather than accepting the outcome of a democratic process, Sen. Obasanjo has resorted to launching personal attacks against Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), a leader whose political relevance continues to grow because of his accessibility, grassroots connection, developmental interventions and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people of Ogun State.

“No amount of anger, political threats or media outbursts can erase the fact that Senator Yayi enjoys widespread acceptance across Ogun Central and beyond. Leadership is earned through performance, consistency and the confidence of the people—not through emotional rhetoric.”

He emphasized that democracy thrives on healthy competition, respect for differing opinions and issue-based campaigns, not on bitterness or attempts to undermine opponents through inflammatory comments.

Hon. Oyekunle Adebayo JP Oba therefore advised Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo to focus on presenting her programmes, policies and vision to the people of Ogun Central instead of dwelling on disagreements arising from political negotiations. The electorate deserves mature conversations about development, security, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and economic growth—not endless political recriminations.

“The people of Ogun Central are politically enlightened and capable of making informed decisions. They will judge every candidate based on credibility, competence, character and verifiable records of service, not by sensational headlines or emotional declarations.”

He reaffirmed that the Redemption Mission Group (RMG) remains steadfast in its support for progressive leadership, internal democracy and the continued advancement of the ideals that unite members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Oyekunle Adebayo JP Oba concluded by expressing confidence that no amount of political grandstanding or personal attacks would distract Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) from his unwavering commitment to the people of Ogun Central and Ogun State.

He urged political actors to elevate public discourse, embrace civility and allow the electorate to decide based on facts, performance and vision, rather than personal grievances and political theatrics. This preserves the strong political contrast while avoiding assertions that go beyond what is publicly established.
