The Deputy Head of Missions to the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, Mr. Kozaki Hitoshi, alongside some staff of the Embassy and UNOPS staff from Ghana and Nigeria, presented some equipment to the Anambra State Government today at the Government House, Awka.
The Embassy of Japan’s project, “Emergency Support to Climate Change in Anambra State, Nigeria,” is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity of the State Government to tackle the growing threats of climate change, especially floods. This intervention stems from the devastating impact of the 2022 floods on the state.
The primary objective of this project is to equip the Government with the necessary resources to effectively respond to floods and other climate-related disasters. This will be achieved through:
1. Enhanced Logistical Capacity: Procuring and delivering 10 vehicles (3 Pickups, 4 SUVs, 3 Cargo Trucks) to improve mobility and transportation of personnel and relief materials.
2. Improved Information and Communication Technology: Providing 25 ICT equipment, including 8 laptops, 10 GPS devices, 5 photocopiers, and 2 GPS flood detectors, to enhance data collection, analysis, and communication.
GPS Flood Detectors – A critical aspect of this project is the installation of two GPS water level detector sensors at strategic riverbank locations. These devices are designed to enhance early flood warning systems by monitoring water levels and sending real-time alerts to stakeholders.
This bilateral collaboration is a pointer to the quality of leadership provided by Governor Soludo to the Anambra people.
