Jumia Nigeria marked World Heart Day with an open health-check initiative organised in partnership with St. Emmanuel Hospital, providing members of the public, particularly people in and around Isolo, Lagos, with access to basic health checks while creating a platform for conversations about cardiovascular health and everyday wellbeing.
The initiative reflects Jumia Nigeria’s broader commitment to using its platform and reach to support initiatives that build healthier, more informed communities. Through the activity, participants had the opportunity to undergo basic health assessments and engage healthcare professionals on the importance of paying closer attention to heart health.
The programme comes at a time when cardiovascular health remains an important public health concern in Nigeria.
For Jumia, the partnership with St. Emmanuel Hospital was therefore designed to move the conversation beyond awareness by encouraging people to take practical steps towards understanding and monitoring their health.
Commenting on the initiative, Risper Anyango Obure, Head of Human Resources, Jumia Nigeria, said the company believes that meaningful community engagement should extend beyond commerce to initiatives that touch people’s everyday lives.
“At Jumia, our responsibility to the communities we serve goes beyond providing access to products and services. World Heart Day offers an important opportunity to encourage people to pay attention to their health, ask questions, and take simple, proactive steps towards their wellbeing. Our partnership with St. Emmanuel Hospital allowed us to bring that conversation closer to the public and reinforce the importance of making health a priority.”
The collaboration also underscores the value of accessible health conversations, particularly around conditions that may not always present obvious symptoms. St. Emmanuel Hospital Laboratory currently offers a range of health screening services, including checks covering blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney function, and other indicators relevant to overall health.
By creating an avenue for people to receive basic checks and interact directly with healthcare professionals, Jumia and St. Emmanuel Hospital sought to make preventive health a more tangible part of everyday life.
The initiative forms part of Jumia Nigeria’s approach to community engagement, leveraging moments of public relevance to create experiences that connect with consumers beyond the marketplace. It also reinforces the idea that better health outcomes can begin with simple actions: paying attention, asking questions, and seeking appropriate medical guidance when necessary.
As World Heart Day continues to draw attention to cardiovascular health globally, the partnership between Jumia Nigeria and St. Emmanuel Hospital highlights the role businesses can play in helping to make health awareness more accessible, practical, and community-focused.
