A 35-year old man, Saidi Bolarinwa, who allegedly inserted finger into the private part of an 8-year old girl inside the market, has denied sexually molesting the victim claiming that he only checked something inside her private part.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alapere Market, Bariga area of Lagos, where he does his business.
The Police tried to find out what he was checking inside her private part in the market but he was unable to reveal it. He was arrested by Police operatives in Bariga and transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for investigation, where he still denied molesting the victim sexually.
It was gathered that the suspect, Bolarinwa, reportedly lured the victim into a place, pulled her pant and inserted his finger into her before he was caught.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for sexual assault on the victim; he denied and claimed that he did not rape the victim.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the victim was a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, ordered the defendant, Bolarinwa, to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The case may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial. If he is tried and found guilty, he may spend some years in prison custody for the alleged offence.
The matter was adjourned till 17th October, 2019.
