The residents of White Sand in Isheri Oshun area in the outskirt of Lagos are more confused after the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni visited the area over an incessant abduction and kidnapping for ransom.
The kidnappers reacted almost immediately by shooting to death two residents, while a landlord and three other residents including a 15-year old boy were taken away through the water ways with canoe.
Owoseni had visited the area and deployed a detachment of mobile police to protect the residents from the kidnappers.
But the arrangement seemed to have flopped, as P.M.EXPRESS gathered from the residents that the CP visit and deployment of police have worsened the situation.
According to the residents, the abductors are sophisticated and struck as usual because the police was not familiar with the terrain which comprises of swamp and water ways for easy escape.
And the police who were brought from other command do not know much about the terrain and could not withstand the kind of weapons they use during their attack.
The police, according to residents, usually shoot to harass and went into hiding to save their own life too.
Even the local vigilante group brought popularly known as Baba Alado Boys had to leave the area as they cannot cope with the suspects who usually came from the water ways in the evening.
However, a senior police source said they are countering and in control of the situation.
He said they have blocked all the routes the suspects are using and have made several arrests.
They also recovered wood canoe as exhibit and kept at Isheri Oshun division.
The residents said those had not deterred the abductors who usually come to the area and abduct victims and negotiate ransom with their relation before they release.
As at the time of filing this report, the latest victims have not been freed.
