Ahead of 2025 Local Government elections in Lagos State, the Labour Party has started making moves to resolve the internal leadership crisis that has thrown the party members into warring factions in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the outcome of the meeting held in Lagos by critical stakeholders to chart a new course, to bring all the factions together and forge ahead for the election.
The convener of the meeting was Chief John Uche, the Deputy Apex leader of Labour Party, Lagos State and Senior Special Assistant on Political matters to Hon. Okey-Joe Anuakulisi.
Those in attendance included some leaders of the party from 14 out of the 20 Local Government Areas across the State.
During the meeting, the stakeholders acknowledged that there has been lingering crises in the Party, which has undermined its unity in the State.
They unanimously agreed that there was need to make peace among the factions and reorganize the Party in order to position the Party for the forthcoming election and other elections in the future.
After much deliberations, the stakeholders came up with a communique. Their resolutions included the following:
1. The cause of the crisis arose after the Lagos State Labour Party Chairperson,  Mrs. Dayo Ekong, resigned her appointment as chairperson and went to Nnewi town in Anambra State and contested for the position of Financial Secretary at the National level and won.
However, her appointment as caretaker chairperson was for months but she still came back and took the same position she resigned from before she contested for the election against the constitution of Labour Party.
2.  The meeting resolved that all the warring factions in the Party from all the Local Government Areas in the State are requested to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
3. The meeting noted that the crises were being instigated and sponsored by some political parties so that Labour Party will be in perpetual crisis and there will be no peace.
4.The four Members of the House of Representatives from Labour Party in Lagos State namely,  Hon.Okey-Joe Anuakalusi of Oshodi/Isolo, Hon.George Olawande of Amuwo, Hon. Seyi Sowunmi of Ojo and Hon. Thaddeus Attah of Eti-osa Federal Constituencies are requested to attend the next stakeholders meeting for the final resolution of the crises in Lagos State.
5. The stakeholders will reach out to other leaders who were unavoidably absent in the meeting to ensure that they attend the next meeting for the final resolution of the crises in the State.
