The leader of Alhaji Amusa Traders Association section of the Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos, Mr. Anny Nwabugwu has been arrested and charged before the court over allegations of fraud.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Mr. Nwabugwu was charged with his accomplice one Mr. Chidozie, for allegedly conspiring and defrauding their members to the tune of millions of Naira under false pretence.

They were arraigned before Ogba Magistrates court for the offence and remanded in prison.

It was gathered that Mr. Nwabugwu conspired with one Pethuel Chidozie and obtained huge sums of money from the traders under the false pretence that they will relocate them to a permanent site. They were said to have shown their members a particular place but unknown to them the place that was shown to them belonged to another company.

Some of the victims were Ifeanyi Udeze, Anima Samuel, Moses Okoro, Okwuolisa Ezeilo, Muoneke Chinemere and many others.

However, the scam was exposed when the real owners of the place surfaced and warned the public to beware of fraudsters there. The traders then confronted the suspects to refund their money. But they were unable to refund the monies because they had already converted them to their own personal use.

The alleged fraud was reported to the police and the suspects were arrested and detained at the police station.
At the police station, the suspects denied that it was a scam and were asked to refund the money to the victims but they were unable to do so.
They were charged before Ogba Magistrates court for extortion and fraud.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Edet Ekadu did not oppose their bail.
Thus the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Layinka granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 27th July, 2018.
