A 24-year old lady, Blessing Okonkwo, has reportedly sold her 4-year old brother, Friday Okonkwo, to a buyer, Efunaya Nabufe, 35, for the sum of N410,000 and gave N200,000 to her lover in Adamawa State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Blessing and Efunaya Nabufe, who reside in Mubi North LGA, Adamawa State, have been arrested by the Police for stealing and buying of the stolen boy.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects and that they were undergoing interrogation over their alleged conduct.

He explained that the mother of the boy, Hauwa Lawan, who lives at Rimirgo in Askira Uba, an Adamawa-Borno border town, reported the stealing of her son to the Police, who moved into action and arrested the suspects.

SP Nguroje stated that Blessing, who is elder sister to Friday, met the mother at Rimirgo sometime in 2023 and pleaded with her to release her younger brother for her to enrol him in school in Mubi as there is no standard school in Rimirgo.

The mother, Mrs. Hauwa, released the boy, not knowing that Blessing had  already concluded negotiations to sell the boy to Efunaya for the amount in question.

According to the Police, Blessing was said to have lied to Efunaya who was in need of a child, in the course of negotiations,  that the boy was her son, a child she had while she was in secondary school.

They agreed to the said amount and Blessing sold and handed him over to the buyer, Efunaya, without informing the boy’s mother.

However, trouble started after the mother of the boy got the information about what happened to the boy,  She reported to the Police, who first arrested Blessing for interrogation. And during the investigation, Blessing mentioned Efunaya as the buyer and the Police arrested her too and recovered the boy.

The image maker stated that during the interrogation, Blessing confessed to have sold the boy and used the money to buy a grinding machine after giving N200,000 to her lover.

The Police stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence after the conclusion of investigations.
