Lady, 28, Arraigned For Allegedly Swindling Woman Of N8.5m Under False Pretence

A 28-year old lady, Amarachi Olaoye, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Mrs. Lovelyn Alagbaso, of the sum of N8.5m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 2nd day of December, 2025, at Volks area of Ojo, Lagos.

According to the Police, the lady told the complainant that she had imported Tokunbo Television for sale and the complainant paid the money with the intention that it was a genuine business.
However, after the complainant had paid for the items, the lady bolted away with the money, disconnected every communication she had with the complainant and went into hiding.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ojo Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the lady at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, AMARACHI OLAOYE “F” and others now at large on the 2nd day of December, 2025 at about 09:00hrs at Volks, Ojo, Lagos State, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit Stealing and obtaining by false pretence, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, AMARACHI OLAOYE “F” and others now at large on the same date time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District ,did obtain the sum of N8,500,000.00 (Eight Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only from One MRS. LOVELYN ALAGBAOSO ‘F’ under the pretence to supply her Tokunbo television sets, a representation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:” That you, AMARACHI OLAOYE “F” and others now at large on the same date time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N8,500,000.00 (Eight Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only from One MRS. LOVELYN ALAGBAOSO ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate,, Mr. L.K.J Layeni granted her bail in sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
