KINGSLEY EBERE

A 28-year old lady, Omowumi Isiaka, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a meat seller, Rafiu Adeniregun, to the tune of N.96m under false pretence.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 10th November, 2025, at Abattoir animal market in Oko Oba area of Agege, Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect went to the market and told the complainant that she was a meat seller. She requested for credit for cow legs worth the said amount in order to sell to her customers with the promise to return the money to the complainant.

The complainant gave her the meat as they had agreed, she took the meat and disconnected every communication she had with the complainant and did not pay back the money.

The matter was reported to the Police at Abattoir Division. The Police trailed, later arrested and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

While being interrogated, the suspect admitted to have collected the meat and told the Police that she sold it and spent the money as such had no money to refund him.

The Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

“That you, Omowumi Isiaka ‘F’ on the 10th November, 2025 at about 12:00hrs at abattoir animal market Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos State, in Ikeja magisterial district, did obtain cow legs valued N963,000 from one Rafiu Adeniregun ‘M’ under the pretense of selling to refund the money and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

However, she pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
