Lady, 29, Arraigned For Swindling Man Of N5.2m Under False Pretence

A 29-year old lady, Nwozor Ngozi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly parading herself as a worker at Chimleas Ada Estate Company, Asaba, Delta State and using it to swindle a man, Osato Ogbewe of the sum of N5.2m under false pretence. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ngozi, had on 29th day of June 2025, at about 1210hrs, at Jenlo Shoe and Bag Company, Asenuga Street, Off Liasu Ikotun Egbe Lagos, allegedly collected the money under the false pretence of buying a plot of land in Asaba, Delta State.

 

However, after collecting the money, she disappeared and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant and did not provide an proof that she actually bought the land as they had agreed.

 

The alleged scam was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained her at the station for interrogation and for her to provide evidence of purchasing the land for the complainant.

 

During the investigation, the suspect was unable to provide any purchase receipt of the land. The Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Nwozor Ngozi ‘F’, and others now at large, on the 29th day of June 2025, at about 1210hrs, at Jenlo Shoe and Bag Company, Asenuga Street, Off Liasu Ikotun Egbe Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, Nwozor Ngozi ‘F’, and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the Aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner to cause breach of the peace by failing to produce the relevant documents of one plot of land purchase for One Osato Ogbewe ‘m’ when demanded by the Police while parading and presenting yourself as a worker at Chimleas Ada Estate Company, Asaba, Delta State and thereby commited an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT III: “That you, Nwozor Ngozi ‘F’, and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the Aforesaid Magisterial District, did with intend to defraud and obtained the sum of Five Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only (N5,250,000), from One Osato Ogbewe ‘m’ under the pretence to purchase one plot of land for him, a presentation known to you that you are incompetent to deliver and thereby commited an offence contrary to Section 313 and punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT IV: “That you, Nwozor Ngozi ‘F’, and others now still at large on the same date, time and place in the Aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Five Million Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand (N5,250,000) Property of One Osato Ogbewe ‘m’ and thereby commited an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted her bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 1st September, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
