CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 35-year old lady, Onome Godfrey, has been arrested and charged before the Court
in Lagos for inflicting injury on her rival, Cordelia Chinwoba, by grabbing and
biting off her ear during a public fight.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ifedore Street, Yamco area of
Ayobo, Lagos, where they reside.
The Police did not state what actually caused the fight but noted that the duo
were rivals and were in constant disagreement over an undisclosed matter before
they engaged in the public fight and the victim’s ear was bitten off.
According to the residents, on the day the incident happened, they had a disagreement which led to exchange of words and later degenerated to a public fight. In the process, Onome grabbed Cordelia’s ear, bit it off and it fell on the ground.
The victim, Cordelia, was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Ayobo Police Division. The Police then arrested Onome and detained her at the Station for investigation.
After interrogation, she was found culpable. She was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence and she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the offence as alleged.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A.S. Adegun, granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town pending when she will perfect her bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 14th October, 2020, for mention.
