A 37-year old woman, Gbemisola Oladutun, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for swindling a man, Ilesanmi Adebisi, by selling his goods worth over N3.8m, converting the money to her own use and bolting away.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 27th March, 2024, at Meiran area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect allegedly collected the items, sold them and thereafter bolted away with the money in question without remitting it to the complainant as they had earlier agreed.

When the complainant waited for her to remit the money for the goods to no avail having as well disconnected every communication she had with him, the matter was reported to the Police at Meiran Division. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained at the station for interrogation.

During the interrogation, she admitted to have collected the goods and sold them but have spent the money to solve her personal problems as such had no money to refund him.

The Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The charge read: “That you, Gbemisola Oladotun ‘F’, on the 27th day of March, 2024 at about 1400hrs at Meiran Area, Lagos State, in the Ikeja Magisterial district, did sell the goods worth the sum of N3,815,000.00 the property of one llesanmi Adebisi ‘M’ and converted it to your own use and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 280(b) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
