A lady, Olaniyan Grace has landed in big trouble after she went to court and stood as surety to secure the release of a suspected criminal in Lagos.

The fleeing suspect, Mr. Kolawole Muyiwa jumped bail in order not to face trial and Grace was then arrested, charged to court and remanded prison custody.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Grace was charged and facing trial for failing produce Muyiwa before the Ejigbo Magistrates court after she stood as surety for Muyiwa in a case. It was gathered that Muyiwa was arrested and charged before the court over an allegation of committing a criminal offence.

He pleaded not guilty. The court then granted him bail and he was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that while Muyiwa was in prison custody, he contacted Grace and pleaded with her to come and stand as surety at the court so that he would be release from custody. It was learnt that Grace went to the court, perfected his bail condition and he regained freedom but refused to come to court on the adjourned date.

When Muyiwa was released from custody, he realised that he would be jailed based on the evidence before the court if he faced trial and he then decided to abandon Grace and escaped. He was said to have disconnected all his links with his friends and relations and escaped to an unknown place.

When the date for trial came and the matter was mentioned before the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, Muyiwa did not show up.
The court issued a bench warrant as no explanation was given on what happened to him. The court then ordered the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor to arrest Muyiwa or his surety and bring to court.

The prosecutor could only locate Grace, so he arrested her and charged her before the court for perversion of justice.

She pleaded not guilty.

She was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 4 June, 2018.
