The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday organised a special parliamentary session in honour of a former member, Mr Yaya Dosunmu, who clock 80 years.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun, who presided over the plenary session said “Baba is sagacious, it is an apt occasion to recap his achievements”.

The former member, who represented Eti-Osa Constituency between 1979 to 1983, was present during the plenary together with other dignitaries in attendance.

Sanni-Eshinlokun (Lagos Island I) said Baba had left indelible marks, adding that his antecedents were still aiding the House till date.

In his address, Dosunmu who sat at the Deputy Speaker’s seat, jocularly said that the highest position he held was the Chairman House Committee on Service.

The octogenarian said, however, this day he was being promoted and he would leave the House as a deputy speaker.

The celebrator, however, agitated for the welfare of ex-lawmakers, saying that the legislative arm was not doing well in terms of welfare package for ex-members.

“There should be an enabling law for ex-member. Ex-members should be catered for in terms of their feeding, health care and basic needs. It may come in form of monthly stipend,” Dosunmu said.

Commenting, Mr Noheem Adams (Eti-Osa I), where the octogenarian represented, said “Baba represented Eti-Osa Constituency between 1979 to 1983.

Also, Mr Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa II) said Dosunmu had moved landmark motions when he was a member.

Yishawu said: “He moved the motion for landing rate for cannoes, mobile health care, among others. He brings us together. We are happy to look up you as a mentor”.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Muyiwa Jimoh, noted that this was the second time the House would be bending rule for its past members.

Jimoh described Dosunmu as a communist who looked after the welfare of his people.

He added that since the executive had the tradition of honouring their ex-members, there was nothing that stopped the House from doing the same for her ex-colleagues.
