Lagos Athlete, Abimbola Dazzles At 2019 NYG, Wins 3 Gold, 3 Silver In Gymnastics

An athlete of Team Lagos, Abimbola Disu wrote her name in gold on the medal table of the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, Kwara State when she won seven medals in one sporting event.

Abimbola won 3 gold medals in three event of Gymnastics. She also carted home 3 silver medals in the same sport.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that Abimbola won gold medals in vault horse, female aerobics and female tumbling, while she won silver medals in balance beam, best all round and floor exercise. Faye Peters, one of Lagos athletes who won medal in the already concluded gymnastics events, won a silver medal in individual aerobics event.

Meanwhile, Team Lagos increased its medal haul in the swimming event during the afternoon session on Wednesday. P.M. EXPRESS reported earlier on Wednesday how Oluwasemilore Ogundipe had won a gold medal in the 50m boys breaststroke together with Favour Adeju who also won a gold medal in 50m girls breaststroke and Agnes John’s silver medal in 100m girls backstroke.

In the afternoon session at the Ilorin City Stadium, Lagos swimmers were able to win 4 more silver medals in 10 events overall decided on Wednesday with 10 more events scheduled for Thursday. The breakdown shows Abduljabar Adama won 2 silver in 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley, while Agnes John won silver in 200m individual medley and Shedrach Simeon won silver in 100m freestyle.

Team Lagos is also closed to winning gold medal in the female football event as the football team have qualified for the final after they walloped Akwa Ibom 2-0 at the Maracana Stadium inside University of Ilorin.

Action continues on Thursday in the NYG which ends on 17 September, 2019.
