Lagos Bizwoman Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Theft Of $10, 000

A Lagos-based businesswoman, Omotara Junaid, 32, has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of $10, 000 from a Bureau De Change Operator, Oladele Olanrewaju Akeem under false pretense.

The accused, a resident of Lagos Island, was arrested by the operatives of the General Investigation, Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, FCIID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that after investigation by DSP Agu and his team, Omotara, also an operator of an NGO dealing with child abuse, was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a three count charge of felony to wit stealing.

Police prosecutor, Moruf Animashaun Esq, informed the court in charge No  A/33/2017 that the accused and others still at large committed the alleged offence on 12 October, 2016 at Suite 43, Ogba Shopping Arcade, Lagos.

Animashaun told the Court that the accused collected the sum of $10, 000 from the complainant with a promise to pay him back in Naira equivalent but that after the accused collected the money, she failed to pay back the money to the complainant as promised, and instead she converted the money to her use and escaped.

He said the accused was eventually tracked and arrested at a hide out and taken to the station.

Animashaun said the offenses the accused committed are punishable under sections 411, 287 (5), and 314 (1) (a) of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

The accused however denied the police allegations in the open court and Magistrate Mrs. O.O Oshin admitted her on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oshin adjourned the case till 12 July, 2017 for mention, while Omotara was taken to the Kirikiri Prison, Apapa Lagos pending when she will fulfill her bail conditions.
