In its bid to extend the knowledge and understanding of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) platform, the Lagos State Citizens Mediation Centre (CMC) has organised a mediation training programme for members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Lagos State.

Addressing participants at the programme held recently at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic, Alausa, Ikeja, the Director, CMC, Mrs. Biola Oseni, said the training was organised to spread the knowledge of ADR and also share the basic principles of mediation needed to practice as a professional mediator.

She urged the participants to seize the opportunity provided by the programme to enhance their mediation prowess.

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alaba, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bassey Ewan, acknowledged the immense contribution of CMC in the amicable resolution of disputes.

He noted that mediation has been the best alternative dispute resolution mechanism to ensure that differences among residents are amicably resolved.

Alaba, therefore, urged participants to pay attention and acquire all relevant techniques and skills needed to function as professional mediators.

Acknowledging the impact of CMC in conflict resolution, the Chairman PCRC, Apostle Kehinde Showemimo, said the Centre has been helping in decongesting the court of cases that could be resolved amicably through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

He charged the PCRC members to be part of community peacemakers through the application of basic mediation techniques for an amicable resolution of disputes.

The training programme, which had 62 participants in attendance, will be extended to others on different days within the months of June and July 2022 to avoid overcrowding.
