Lagos Commissioner Wahab Tackles Tunde Ednut Over Misinformation On Mushin Road

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, has responded to a recent video posted by social media influencer Tunde Ednut showing the alleged poor state of a road in Mushin, Lagos.

In a post on X, Wahab urged Ednut to verify information before publishing, stating that the video being circulated was old and did not reflect the current situation in the area.

The Commissioner wrote:

“Dear Tunde @mazitundeednut,

We understand your persistent tendency to portray Nigeria, particularly Lagos State, in a negative light, often to the detriment of your audience. However, we believe it is important to verify information before publishing it,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner said the location featured in the video had since been cleared. He added that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has continued to sustain its operations in the area.

“Contrary to your recent post showing the state of the road in Mushin, the video shared is an old one and does not reflect the current situation in the area. The location has since been cleared, and LAWMA has continued to sustain its operations in the area,” he said.

Wahab acknowledged that Lagos, like other major cities, faces challenges, particularly in waste management, but noted that the government continues to intervene where necessary.

He identified the unwillingness of some residents and property occupiers to pay for Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste collection services as one of the recurring challenges affecting waste management in parts of the state.

“Nevertheless, LAWMA and its teams have consistently intervened in areas where such challenges arise and continue to work towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner encouraged content creators and the public to verify information before publishing content that could create a misleading impression.

“We therefore encourage you to verify your information before publishing, rather than relying on outdated content that could give a misleading impression of the current situation or unnecessarily project Lagos and Nigeria in a negative light,” he said.

Wahab added that while constructive criticism is welcome, it is more effective when based on accurate and verifiable information.

LAWMA and other relevant agencies continue to carry out sanitation and waste evacuation exercises across Lagos as part of efforts to keep the environment clean.
