The new Lagos Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgar has warned police officers in the state that the era of impunity was over and any officer found wanting will be dealt with seriously.

He also warned youths against cultism and declared that cult activities in the state will not be tolerated and any person found culpable will not be spared as  they have serious links with other forms of criminality such armed robbery, kidnapping, drug abuse, violence and among others.

Edgar stated this on Wednesday during an interaction with journalists at the Officers Mess at Ikeja, Lagos.

“The issue of corruption is an issue on my mind because it undermines the integrity and  image of the Police and I am willing to tackle it”

He said he will create Citizens Centre and Complains Units in both the State and the Area Commands with selected phone numbers that can be called to listen to the complains of Lagosians and take prompt action on such matters.
He also promised to bring innovations that will enhance protection of lives and property in the state and sought for the cooperation of all the stakeholders to achieve the dream.

On the issue of drugs, he said he will liaise with the NDLEA and the Local Councils to sensitize the youths against the use of drugs, because when they take the drugs, they are exposed to various crimes and violence in the society.
He also revealed that the police will work with the recognised local vigilantes in the area of intelligence gathering but warned that no vigilante group will be allowed to use guns as any of them found with guns will be arrested and prosecuted under the laws.

He also solicited for the cooperation of the media and advised the need for caution in what they publish in order not to cause panic in the society.
He explained that he had had series of meetings with his officers from Area Commanders to Divisional Police Officers and they have assured him that they will cooperate with the implementation of those policies that will enhance security in the state and they were ready for the tasks ahead.

He thanked the Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode  who has declared that he will give the police the necessary support for the safety of the Lagosians. Edgar promised to give everything possible by doing his very best to achieve the dream.
