The Lagos State Education District III has held its annual Music Festival and Talent Showcase with the theme: ‘Lighten Up’.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, in her remarks, said music is one of the things that unite a nation, adding that the festival is geared to identify students who are talented in music and proficient in musical instruments.

Oyetola further noted that some students may not be good academically but are good in music, such as singing, rapping and playing musical instruments, as such it is important for the society to help them discover and channel their creative gifts

She stated further that the festival was designed to align with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which focused on a well-rounded education, academics, sports, and the creative arts. It also encourages students who have a passion for music and want to make a career in it.

There were displays of different genres of music like Fuji, Afrobeat and Rap. Students also displayed their proficiency in musical instruments, such as the piano and saxophone.

There were captivating performances by some students such as Sholaja Taibat of Girls Academy Senior School, who rapped; Amoo Faruq of Ebute Elefun Senior High School, who sang fuji and Lawson Tobi of Wahab Folawiyo Senior High School who displayed his dexterity with the talking drum.
