The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is expected to appear before Ebute Metta Magistrates Court as a witness to give evidence on how he apprehended three traffic robbers in Ojota area of the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were granted to bail in sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum by the Presiding Magistrate, Adebayo Tella, after they were arraigned before the Court in Ebute Metta. The case was adjourned for trial for witnesses to come and testify against the defendants.

The amiable Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu, had reportedly  intercepted the defendants namely, Aliu Umar, Mustapha Umar, Abubakar Laraban and Aliu Mohammed, while attempting to unleash terror on a motorist in the Ojota area of Lagos, and as a star witness, is expected to appear in Court.

It was learnt from Police sources that the Governor will be expected to go to Court in order to give evidence as a witness.

However, if he will not come to Court to testify, the matter may likely to be struck out for lack of evidence and the defendants will be discharged and acquitted.
The suspects were arraigned on three count charges bordering on conspiracy, breach of public peace and possession of weapons, which they pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The Prosecutor, Kehinde Olatunde, told the Court that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit the offence. He noted that they conducted themselves disorderly by bearing offensive weapons and wandering on the highway in circumstances that were illegal.
Kehinde said they used offensive weapons, including two cutlasses in an attempt to rob a motorist around Ojota inbound Alausa, before they were arrested by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The defence counsel, A. C. Abazee, however, urged the Court to grant his clients bail in liberal terms.
The case was adjourned till 6th August, 2021, for trial.
