The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has charged auditors in the State Civil Service to key into the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, stressing it is the only way to realising the State’s vision of a ‘Greater Lagos’.

Muri-Okunola spoke during the opening ceremony of the 6th Annual Auditors’ Retreat organised by the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments at the Pelican International Hotel, Lekki recently.

He disclosed that Auditors at both State and Local government levels are critical to the actualisation of government’s plans, policies and programmes designed to rekindle hope for a prosperous, safe and healthy State, adding that their responsibility of ensuring financial transparency and compliance with laid down rules and regulations are paramount.

Reiterating government’s resolve to continuously facilitate career progression of all civil servants, Muri-Okunola, however, charged the Auditors to regularly improve their knowledge in order to meet up with present realities.

On her own part, the Permanent Secretary /Auditor General for Local Governments, Mrs. Adesumbo Idiat Abolarin noted that an efficient audit system is a prerequisite for proper service delivery, maintaining that the retreat was organised to sharpen the skills of auditors in order to contribute their quota to the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the government.

Calling on all civil servants to reciprocate government’s gesture of prompt payment of the new minimum wage and the promise of payment of accrued arrears very soon, Abolarin solicited for increased productivity and the provision of qualitative service always.

The Honourable Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by Chairman, Appropriation Committee, Hon. Gbolahan Yishau, restated the legislature’s resolve to render all the required support to the auditors in their quest for professional excellence.

Obasa enjoined the auditors to ensure that Local Governments are, not only responsive to the yearnings of the people at the grassroots but also accountable and prudent.
