Two Nigerian stars made impressive showing in the ongoing 3rd Lagos International Badminton Classics Championship at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere on Thursday when they defied all odds to qualify for the quarter final of the event.
PM EXPRESS reports that Anu Opeyori and Usman Ayo Isiaq will play in Friday’s quarter finals. Anu, who entered the main draws of the competition through the qualifiers, will slug it out against an Indian star, Chittaboina, while Usman will go to war against Emmanuel Yaw Donkor of Ghana all in the men’s singles event.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports/ Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Deji Tinubu has stated that the Badminton Classics is part of a series of International sporting events geared towards attracting the best continental and global sports talents to the shores of Nigeria in pursuance of the sports developmental agenda of the state government.
He maintained that nothing will stop Team Nigeria from taking other competing teams apart despite participation from European counterparts, noting that the home support will be overwhelming for other teams to behold.
