A 32-year-old woman, Okechukwu Amaka, has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba on Monday for allegedly assaulting a 12-year old minor.
The charge was filed by the Commissioner of Police and prosecuted by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
According to court documents dated 23/03/2026, the defendant faces one count under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The charge relates to an incident alleged to have occurred on 2nd March, 2026, at Omoleran Street, Papa Ajao, Mushin area of Lagos State.
According to the charge, the defendant, Amaka allegedly assaulted the 12-year old victim and the case was brought before the court by the District Prosecutor’s Office, Ogba.
According to the prosecution, the defendant was involved in a physical altercation with the minor at the stated address. Section 173 of the Lagos Criminal Law deals with offences of assault causing harm.
During arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to provide evidence to prove that the offence was actually committed.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
Every person charged for an offence under the Nigeria Law is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The defendant will have opportunity to present her defence and legal representation during trial.
Also under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, cases involving minors are handled with sensitivity under Lagos State Child Protection laws. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, often provides support in matters affecting children and vulnerable persons.
