The Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Prince Olarenwaju Elegushi, has reiterated the need for all government agencies and security operatives to synergise their operations in the Lagos Central Business District.

Elegushi made the statement in his address at a stakeholders meeting organised for government agencies operating within the Lagos Island Central Business District and aimed at harmonising operations to enhance the Lagos megacity status.

According to him, “Over three million shoppers and traders commute the Lagos Island daily and these results in a high influx of people with attendant security, waste, traffic and emergency issues which one agency of Government cannot handle alone effectively. We must, therefore, synchronise our operations to meet the attendant large volume of challenges daily”.

The Special Adviser declared that government agencies cannot work at cross purposes and expect a positive effect on service delivery towards the attainment of set goals and objectives of the Lagos State Government.

He implored all State agencies operating within the Lagos Island CBD to notify his office before embarking on any activity so that logistics and security cover can be provided for a hitch free operation.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on CBD, Mr. Sola Giwa averred that all government agencies must see themselves as one and must be fully prepared to ensure that the original master plan of the Lagos Island Business District is maintained and protected.

He also restated the need for all agencies of government to work in harmony and unity of purpose to attain the desired goal of making shopping and trading on the Island stress-free.

Stakeholders at the meeting agreed on the need for proper harmonisation of operations of all agencies for effective service delivery in the areas of waste management, traffic control, environment, health, physical planning as well as security and fire safety.

At the end of deliberations, it was resolved that standing committees be created to address issues that create friction between government establishments.
