As part of efforts geared towards engaging public and private school students as well as creating opportunities for them to participate in various programmes online while at home, the Lagos State Government has finalised plans for the Year 2020 Governor’s Quiz Competition.

Disclosing this during an interview held on Wednesday at the Secretariat, Alausa, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo stated that the programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, is aimed at testing the knowledge of students as well as ensuring that they are always prepared to take up any proficiency test.

Adefisayo noted that the Governor’s Quiz Competition, which is an annual event, is being held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and adaptation to the ‘new normal’, revealing that students and schools have been selected across the six Education Districts to participate in the preliminaries which will herald the Grand Finale coming up 7th August 2020.

In her words, “The Ministry has taken time to study the peculiarities that come with the guidelines for keeping safe as well as ensuring physical distancing and has deployed all necessary technical expertise to ensure that our students can compete in any competition or attend seminars virtually”.

The Commissioner, therefore, implored parents and guardians to ensure their children watch the programme and learn from the event, which will be highly competitive and moderated by a renowned Quiz Master, Mr. Olusegun Adedeji.

While informing that viewers can watch via the live streaming on Lagos State Ministry of Education’s Facebook page @lasgeducation or YouTube @Education LASG, she affirmed that the Grand Finale will be held on Friday, 7th August 2020 at 10:00 am.

Adefisayo reiterated that the Education Ministry will not relent in its efforts towards ensuring that a conducive atmosphere is provided for teaching and learning during this pandemic, urging the students to shun all vices while at home and continue to learn extensively through the radio, television and online platforms.
