The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has concluded plans to celebrate the Year 2023 International Youth Day with a week-long set of activities.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed this recently at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
She revealed that activities have been put in place to celebrate youths in the State as the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu attaches great importance to issues concerning the youths.
According to her, the six day programme to mark the Year 2023 International Youth Day (IYD) with the theme: “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”, would commence on Monday, 7th August, 2023 with a Business Amplifier Clinic. Other activities include Awareness Walk/Environmental Clean Up slated for Tuesday, 8th August, 2023, while Wednesday, 9th-12th August, 2023 will witness Business Fair/Exhibition For Young Entrepreneurs.
“On Thursday, 10th August 2023, there will be an Entrepreneurship Seminar/Business Plan Pitch/Contest. On Friday, 11th August 2023, an Emerging Youth Award Ceremony will be organised by NYCN (Lagos State Chapter). The Grand Finale Seminar will be held on Saturday, 12th August 2023”, she added.
She asserted that the State Government had included “Youth Engagement” and “Social Inclusion” in the activities marking the Day in a bid to give over 10 million youths in the State more opportunities and resources to maximise their skills and potential as provided for in the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
The International Youth Day (IYD) was first observed by the UN on 12 August, 2000 to help draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youths with the aim of proffering solutions to them.
This year’s IYD, which focuses on green transition, is aimed at  sustainable economic growth and an economy that is not dependent on fossil fuels and overconsumption of natural resources.
