Lagos State Govt Urges Stakeholders To Take Advantage Of TVT Registration

The Lagos State Government, through the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), hosted the Fifth Auto and Spare-Parts Dealers Stakeholders’ Forum with a charge to the participants to take advantage of the newly-introduced Temporary Vehicle Tag (TVT) for vehicles from the point of entry at ports in Lagos.

Speaking at the well-attended forum held recently in strict compliance with all safety protocols at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, the General Manager, MVAA, Mrs. Lape Kilanko, noted that the forum was designed to serve as an interaction between the State Government and auto dealers with the primary purpose of exchanging ideas to chart the best way forward for their businesses.

She said, “The forum also aimed at educating and enlightening the participants on how the TVT works through a representative of Alpha Beta Consulting – the operator of the platform – who was invited to put participants through the nitty-gritty of the online vehicle registration process for TVT.”

According to the General Manager, the State Transportation Law does not permit any vehicle to ply the roads without due registration/identification, as such it became imperative for the agency to introduce the Temporary Vehicle Tag, which will serve as an identification tag for vehicles before full registration as required by law.

“The tag covers imported cars from the point of importation at the ports to their destination and very ideal for tracking stolen vehicles before full registration. The TVT will also help the agency in keeping track of the number of vehicles coming into the country through the State. So it is a win-win situation for both the MVAA and Auto dealers”, Mrs. Kilanko said.

The General Manager equally pointed out that the validity period of the TVT is one month from the date of issue and is renewable for another thirty days.
In her own presentation, Mrs. Oyefemi Oyediran of Alpha Beta Consulting, stated that Auto dealers can access the online application through the website “mvaa.ebs-rcm.com” for seamless online registration with automatic generation of a bill for customers, discussing extensively on the registration process and demand notices among other vital uses of the platform.

Responding, Chairman, Lagos State Motor Dealers Association, Mr. Adeleke Aladegbemi, commended the MVAA for the initiative but implored the Agency to delay the implementation of the TVT registration policy, saying, “We ask that the agency gives us more time to consult with our Executives in this regard before enforcing compliance of the TVT registration directive”.

A cross-section of participants also used the medium to appeal to the MVAA to plead with the Government on their behalf for a reduction in bills accrued to them in the Year 2020, having been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the lockdown and the #EndSARS protests.

Other dignitaries at the event included the representative of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, ACP Oludotun Olubona; Director, Dealers License Department (MVAA), Mr. Biodun Shasanya and Director, Control and Regulation of Licences, Mr. Ibrahim Bishi among others.
