A two-day Gymnastics “Open Day” holds at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.
The program which holds on Thursday and Friday this week is organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission and the State Gymnastics Association.
The Gymnastics Open Day will involve students in Education District 3 that comprises secondary schools from Lagos Island, Eti-Osa , Ikoyi and its environs and District 4 that include schools from Surulere, Yaba, Somolu among others.
Over 100 students  from 20 schools are expected to participate in the two-day program targeted at exposing them to the rudiments of the sport.
The program will also give the coaches the opportunity to discover new talents, create awareness for Gymnastics at the grassroots in Lagos State and educate the students on the rudiments of gymnastics.
Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh said the Gymnastics Open Day is one of several activities the Executive Governor of the state, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved for the development of sports at the grassroots.
“The Governor has given us the mandate to focus more on grassroots sports development. With this mandate, we want to ensure that there is a level playing field for the development of all sports in the state”, Dr Tandoh said.
