The Office of Local Government Establishments and Training has organised a training workshop for officers in the State Unified Local Government Service.

Declaring open the workshop held on Tuesday, at NECA House Conference Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishment and Training, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun stated that the training was aimed at sharpening the skills of officers in global best practices and improved productivity.

The Permanent Secretary pointed out that the demands of the populace are getting more sophisticated hence the need to build the capacity of the workforce in order to serve all residents in the State effectively.

“We are moving from the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda and going further T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS because the demands of the populace are getting more sophisticated, we have to be more equipped and serve the good people of Lagos. How do we equip ourselves, we have to build capacity, learn new things and sharpen our skills. What we do and know may not necessarily be sufficient for the demands of residents hence the need for regular capacity training”.

Olushekun mentioned that the officers would be trained on job-specific training programmes so that they would have job-specific skills that can serve the people and reflect on the job performance of officers.

“We are moving from generic training programmes to job-specific training programmes; generic trainings are good, we are not replacing it totally but there is a need to do more, so we are moving from generic to job specific in order to ensure that we have the necessary skills that can serve residents in line with global best practices’’, the Permanent Secretary averred.

She, therefore, advised the participants to optimally harness the opportunities inherent in the training programme and apply the various takeaways in the discharge of their duties, adding that they should also ensure that the knowledge acquired is cascaded to others in their respective local government for improved service delivery.

Olushekun thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to the improvement of the skills of officers in the Unified Local Government, expressing her belief that the participants will judiciously make use of their new skills.

Participants at the event expressed satisfaction with the workshop, noting that it will increase their productivity and provide opportunity to network with professional colleagues.
