Lagos Trains Over 100 Young Swimmers In Basic Techniques

The Lagos State Sports Commission in collaboration with the Lagos State Aquatic Association embarked on a three-day clinic to train over 100 prospective young swimmers at the Olympic-sized swimming Pool, Rowe Park Sports Centre,Yaba Lagos.

The initiative is a developmental pathway designed to identify, nurture, and empower up-and-coming swimmers from riverine and coastal communities across Lagos State, while promoting water safety, inclusion, and sporting excellence.

The Lagos Coastal Series tagged “Makoko to the Lanes” provide a structured platform for the young talented swimmers in the state to continue to hone their skills, expand grassroots participation in swimming, discover and develop young talents from underserved communities.

Speaking to the journalists, Founder Swim 4 Change, Olubunmi Ajagbe reiterated that the talented swimmers across the coastal areas would benefit from the clinic which will put them through the scale of representimg the state and beyond in future.

She said, “Through this initiative the kids that do not have the opportunity would have the opportunity now and when they avail themselves of the platform, work very hard we believe that we can bring the change to their lives.”

One of the coaches piloting the sessions, Abiodun Ojomo expressed his enthusiasm for the Lagos State Sports Commission’s praising its potential to reduce poverty in rural areas.

“The children are delighted, and we are still expecting more from the Lagos State government. If we elevate this program, poverty will reduce in rural areas. We have so many talents among the children that can be useful for our state, especially since Lagos State is surrounded by water.”

On behalf of the association, the secretary, Olanipekun Bodunrin added that, “We are using this opportunity to call unto members of our community especially our swim mums and dads to join us in our quest to enrich and impact the talents that abounds within our coastal areas.

” The association remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and sustainable development. The Lagos State Swimming Coastal Series is not a one-off event—it is a long-term program that reflects our belief that talent lives everywhere, but opportunity must be created.”
