Doctors at the General Hospital in Isolo, Lagos State, are battling to save the life of a tenant’s wife, Mrs. Joy Johnson, after their landlady, Alhaja Elusehinde and her son, Kazeem including two daughters, allegedly battered her, hired suspected thugs and ejected them from their two-bedroom flat.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 19th April, 2025, at Elusehinde Street, Ijedodo area of Lagos where the victim’s husband, Mr. John Johnson, lives with his family.
For the past two weeks, the family had been rendered homeless after thugs broke the door to the flat and threw their properties out of the flat. The couple reportedly fled from the house with their children and had been living inside a church.
The Police at Isheri Oshun Division have arrested the landlady, Alhaja and the three children. They were granted administrative bail while waiting to know the fate of Mrs. Joy said to be in the balance.
According to the embattled Mrs. Johnson, trouble started after they paid the landlady the monthly N10,000 electricity bill but their light was disconnected. She explained that since it was only the landlady that had access and knew how much their monthly bill was, they waited for her to restore the light which she later did. She narrated that when the light was restored, the landlady disconnected their flat. She then went to ask her what happened while pleading with her to connect them back but she walked her away from her apartment.
They had exchange of words outside over the disconnection and the landlady brought her two daughters to attack her. They battered her until she became unconscious and was rushed to a private hospital before being referred to the General lHospital. It was when the landlady realized that the victim might die in the process, that she brought money for treatment in the private hospital. But the victim’s condition became worse and the Police referred her to the General Hospital.
However, Alhaja Elusehinde admitted that they actually fought her and the cause of the fight was the disconnection of electricity supply over accumulated bill by Ikeja Electicity Distribution company before the tenant, Mr. Johnson, rented the apartment.
She said that the tenants including Mr. Johnson paid their electricity bill for the month yet the electricity company disconnected their light and took their wire to their office claiming that they were owing over N1m of accumulated bill.
The landlady explained that she made efforts and brought the wire back after she made some payments. And when the light was restored, she disconnected the tenants light so that they will balance part of the money she spent before the light was restored.
The son, Kazeem, confessed that he actually removed the door and threw some of their properties outside when his sisters called him that Mrs. Joy beat his mother and he did it out of anger.
The tenant, Mr. Johnson, has cried out for help and justice because they threatened that nothing will happen as they know the Police hierarchy and had contacts.
He explained that since the incident happened, he has been sleeping inside the church with his family and rain has destroyed his properties thrown outside by the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Police have directed the suspects to repair the broken door and move in the complainants property while investigation is ongoing over the alleged offences, which attract several years of imprisonment.
