A 52-year old landlady, Princess Adejana, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly disconnection eletricity supply to two of her tenants, Mr. Isa Oyetunji and Mrs. Idowu Sanusi, over an undisclosed matter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the landlady, Princess Adejana, has been arrested and charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and unlawfully tempering with electricity installations.
The incident happened at Shitu Thompson Street, lju Ishaga area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the landlady had a disagreement with the tenants in question and she engaged the services of an electrician, who disconnected the electricity supply to the tenants.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area G Command in Ogba, Lagos. The landlady was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over her conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT 1:-“That you, Princess Adejana ‘F’ on the 1st day of November, 2024 at about 1330hrs at No. 16, Shitu Thompson Street, lju Ishaga, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by unlawfully and wilfully disconnecting the electricity supply from the apartments of Mr. Isa Oyetunji ‘m’ and Mrs. Idowu Sanusi ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 sub section 1, paragraph ‘d’ of the Criminal law, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
COUNT II: “That you, Princess Adejana, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did wilfully and unlawfully tamper with the electricity installations by disconnecting the apartments of Mr. Isa Oyetunji ‘m’ and Mrs. Idowu Sanusi ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 340 of the criminal law, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Of. Kasanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
