A 44-year old landlord, Tajudeen Ganiu, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly breaking into the apartment of his tenant, Olamilekan Oloyede and throwing out his properties in order to rent out the apartment to another person.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Titilayo Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun area of Lagos State, where the house is located.
The landlord, Tajudeen, has been charged before the Court for conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and stealing.
The Police stated that the rent of the tenant had just expired without owing arrears of rent. But the landlord sensed that he might owe him rent because of the tenant’s financial condition and so he decided to illegally eject him without a quit notice to avoid litigation in the Court.
However, his action has landed him in trouble as he has been charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Police alleged that the defendant deliberately parked the tenant’s properties out and stole some of the items including a power generating set, TV,  pressing iron and others.
The landlord pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for her trial for the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, while ordering his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect her bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd May, 2023, for mention.
