The police have arrested a landlord, Mr. Olayinka Ogunbowale, 47, after he was said to have boiled water and deliberately poured the hot water on the body of his female tenant, Miss Tobi Adigun, over a disagreement related to rent in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Hassan Street in Isolo area of Lagos where they resided.
It was gathered that the victim sustained burns and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where the doctors were battling to save her life.
Police source said that the landlord and the single lady had a disagreement over rent and had been at loggerheads. It was not certain if the victim owed arrears of rent or the landlord increased her rent before the incident happened as the police alleged that the assault also involved two others said to be at large.
However, the landlord was arrested while the police were said to have intensified efforts to arrest the two other suspects in connection with the incident.
Mr. Ogunbowale was charged before Isolo Magistrates court for inflicting serious injury on the single lady with hot water.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, did not oppose his being granted bail. He told the court that the victim was not in court because she was still in the hospital where she was being treated over the injury.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Teluwo, granted Ogunbowale bail in the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 15th August, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the police have intensified efforts to arrest the two other suspects believed to be members of Ogunbowale’s family in connection with the offence who were said to be on the run. It was also learnt that the landlord had shown remorse and promised to pay the medical bills so that the matter will be settled out of court.
