Tragedy struck at Bakare Estate along Igando Road in Ikotun area of Lagos when a security guard shot a landlord while reportedly pretending to be chasing armed robbers who had attacked the estate.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the security man, identified as Lanre, shot his employer, Abro, whose real name was not disclosed by the police.
It was gathered that Lanre was employed with other security men to guard the area at night under an arrangement with their firm.
According to the residents, on the day the incident happened, Lanre and his men came to the area, went to a corner in the estate and slept off. Incidentally, robbers struck that night while they were in deep sleep. The robbers reportedly had successfully robbed eight houses and escaped before Lanre who was said to be in deep sleep woke up, mistook the victim for an armed robbers and shot him in front of his house.
The landlord shouted and fell down before the security man realised that it was one of his employers in the area. He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he eventually died due to the injury sustained. His corpse was later deposited at the mortuary while the matter was reported at the Ikotun Police Division. The security man, Lanre, was arrested and detained at the station over the incident.
When our correspondent visited the police station, the DPO was not around to comment on the matter. But a police source confirmed the incident and said that the matter has been transferred to SCIID Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
