A landlord, Mr. Jude Nzomiwu and his son, Ambrose suffered serious injuries after they engaged their tenants in a public brawl and were brutally battered over house rent in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Clifford Amuche Street in Ajao Estate, Lagos where they resided.
The two tenants, Chigozie David and Chijioke Ikeh have been arrested.
It was gathered that the suspects had disagreement with the victims concerning their rent and the manner in which they were using the plastic water tank in compound whereas they had issues of rent payment. During the confrontation, the suspects reportedly broke the tank, attacked the landlord and seriously injured him. It was learnt that the landlord’s son who rushed to rescue his father, suffered similar fate. Both of them were rushed to an undisclosed hospital where they were receiving treatment over the injuries they sustained in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS was unable to ascertain the rent arrears the tenants were said to be owing as claimed by the landlord but sources confirmed that they were owing due to the economic situation in the country.
The alleged assault was reported to the police at Ajao Estate Division; the suspects were arrested and charged before Isolo court for the alleged offence.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Rita Momah did not object their bail condition.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E. Kubenje granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 26 June, 2018.
