The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has organised a stakeholders’ engagement and enlightenment programme with the theme “Prevention of Building Collapse – Way Forward” for Residents, Owners and Building Developers at Mushin Local Government Area Secretariat, Lagos.

Speaking during the event, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, said that it is no more business as usual in the built environment as he cautioned the residents to shun corruption, sharp practices and other vices or face the full wrath of the law.

He further advised that owners/developers should apply for building plan approval, before the commencement of any building construction, from the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), and also seek authorisation from LASBCA before the commencement of any building construction.

Oki stressed that the services of professionals must be engaged during building construction so as to eradicate the occurrence of building collapse in the State, stressing that the government is not out to witchhunt the citizens but to solicit their support in adhering strictly to building control regulations.

While reiterating the present administration’s commitment to the safety of its citizenry through the construction of buildings that are safe, secure and fit for habitation, Oki said the Agency is determined to demolish buildings that on the right of way, drainage channels, beneath high tension, and along pipelines across the State, insisting that no form of illegality will be tolerated henceforth.

The Chairman, Mushin Local Government Area, Mr. Olanrewaju Bamigboye, applauded the Agency’s efforts to reduce the rate of building collapse in the State.

He also assured the Agency of the Local Government’s full support and partnership in all its activities in the area.
