LASBCA Seals Buildings In Lekki/Ikoyi & Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum To QMB Mart

 

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) on Thursday intensified its enforcement operations in the Lekki and Ikoyi Axis of the state by sealing buildings found to have commenced construction without the mandatory authorisation or building approval from the state government.

 

During the enforcement exercise, Officials of the Agency shut down the ongoing development at Femi Okunnu Road, Alexander Avenue, after the owners failed to acquire the necessary documentation, permitting them to start construction.

LASBCA emphasised that strict adherence to building regulations is essential to prevent the rise of unauthorised structures and to ensure safety and orderly development across the state.

 

During the exercise, LASBCA also issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart to remove all illegal structures erected on the coastal road and under the powerline.

The Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde Abiodun, said that the space was originally allocated to QMB Mart strictly for use as a parking lot. However, the occupants allegedly converted it into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without proper approvals.

 

He further stressed that the Lagos State Government will not tolerate any form of illegal construction or abuse of designated land use.

“Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change of use of Government-Allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the master plan of the state is respected”, he said.

On her part, the General Manager of LASBCA, Bldr. Gbaye Florence, reiterated the agency’s determination to sustain regular monitoring across all development zones in Lagos.

“Our job is to ensure that buildings across Lagos are safe and comply with global standards. Anyone who puts up structures without approval will be tracked, marked, and appropriate enforcement actions taken”, she said.

LASBCA reaffirmed that the enforcement exercise will continue across the state as part of efforts to eliminate illegal structures and ensure a safer, well-planned Lagos.
