Solicitors acting on behalf of the Ikegwuonu Family of Achalla/Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, have issued a formal public notice concerning the late Mr. Kelvin Ositadimma Ikegwuonu. The notice, dated April 9, 2026, is addressed “TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN.”
According to the notice, the family stated:
“That the late Mr. Kelvin Ositadimma Ikegwuonu, during his lifetime, voluntarily and unequivocally disowned, rejected, and dissociated himself from the Ikegwuonu family and all family affairs for several years before his death.”
The family further stated:
“That throughout his lifetime, he deliberately refused to associate with or participate in any family responsibilities, obligations, or communal duties expected of him as a member of the Ikegwuonu family.”
The notice cited specific instances to support this position. It said the deceased did not participate in the burial of a sister in 2004, and did not make any inquiry, contribution, or appearance during the burial of the family matriarch in 2019.
“That his consistent conduct clearly demonstrated a total and deliberate disassociation from the Ikegwuonu family, its kindred, its traditions, and its responsibilities, thereby severing all family ties by his own actions and decisions while alive.”
Based on this prolonged disconnection, the family resolved not to be involved in any matters relating to the deceased’s burial, funeral arrangements, estate, properties, dependents, or any obligations connected to his estate.
“That Our Clients do not want any individual, group, or organization to involve, pressure, lure, or compel them into participating in any burial arrangements, property matters, estate administration, or obligations relating to the late Mr. Kelvin Ositadimma Ikegwuonu.”
The notice also addressed claims of relation to the deceased. It stated that the family does not recognize certain individuals who claim ties to him and are not authorized to use the Ikegwuonu surname.
“That any individual, organization, authority, or group that deals with such persons using the surname ‘Ikegwuonu’… does so entirely at their own risk…”
The document concludes as a “PUBLIC NOTICE” advising community leaders, kindreds, government authorities, and all concerned parties to take note of the family’s position and respect it as a matter of private and family life. The notice says it was issued in good faith to prevent future conflicts, misinformation, or misrepresentation of the family’s position.
The document indicates it was issued by the family’s solicitors, “FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE IKEGWUONU FAMILY OF ACHALLA/UMUCHU, AGUATA LGA, ANAMBRA STATE,” and signed by `[Family Representatives]`.
