Late Prof Akpoborie Begins Final Trip On Thursday In Abraka

The final funeral rites of erudite scholar and one of the leading authorities of hydro geology in the country, Professor Anthony Irwin Akpoborie, begin on Thursday in the university town of Abraka, Delta State.

On that day, a Service of Songs would be held in honour of the professor at the Zion Square Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG in Abraka.

Two days later on Saturday May 1, a Funeral Service would be held at 10 am at the Throne of Mercy Parish of the RCCG, Aviara also in Delta before his internment later in the day.

Prof. Akpoborie who retired from the Delta State University in Abraka earlier in the year died on March 18. He is survived by three children and siblings among who is ex international Jonathan Akpoborie.

A celebrated author with several published articles in international academic journals, Prof Akpoborie was the Executive Director of Centre for Research in Environmental Resource Management, CREMA. His journey in the academic world spanned over five decades taking him through the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he got a Bachelor of Science degree, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom where he got his Master of Science and the Arizona State University in the United States of America, where he got his PHD.

All his degrees were in hydro geology.

He was aged 70 years. Akpoborie said the death of the professor was a huge loss not just to the family but also to the community and academic world at large were he made invaluable contributions.
