Latoyem FC’s Ishiaq Tops Scorer Chart, As Deji Tunubu Memorial Tourney Hots Up At Agege Stadium

The striker of Latoyem Football Club, Saliu Ishiaq with three goals in a single match has topped the scorer chart of the maiden edition of Deji Tinubu Under 17 football competition at the Agege Stadium.
A total of eight teams are featuring in the tournament packaged to honour the late Deji Tinubu, former Special Adviser on Sports to the erstwhile Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Ishiaq, who is endowed with scoring skills, scored a hat-trick as his team defeated Spartan FC of Agege 5-1 in the second Group B match played on Thursday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.

Ishiaq, whose feat paved the way for his team to top Group B with 6 points, 6 goals from three league matches, scored a hat- trick and assist as Iyanda Sheriif and Njoku Tony scored a goal each to end the match 5-1.

The lone goal recorded by Spartan FC was an own goal netted by Adeshina Idris of Latoyem FC. Latoyem players who were technically better than their opponents.

Speaking after the match, the head coach of Latoyem FC, Adefila Careca, thanked the organisers of the grassroot football tournament for creating an opportunity for the players to display their talents and also to play on a synthetic pitch of Agege Stadium, adding that he was satisfied with the organisation of the competition.

Careca, who appreciated the former players of Athletico FC, a team owned by the late Deji Tinubu, for honoring the former Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, whose tenure brought tremendous sports development in the state.

He called on football  scouts in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, to take advantage of the competition to select quality and experienced young talented players who could be recruited for future assignments.

On Friday, two Group A matches will be played at the Agege Stadium with Big Daddy Football Academy take on Tudela Reach in the first match, while Young Striker will slug it out with Prodigy Football Academy.

A member of the Local Organising Committee, Gafar Mohammed, who was a member of the Athletico Football Club, said the decision to stage the tournament in honour of late Deji Tinubu, was to appreciate the moral and financial support the deceased extended to them while playing active football.

Mohammed, said memories of the Late Deji Tinubu, would continue to linger on as he had positively influenced their lives for good, hence the reason they joined hands together to organise a football competition so as to keep his dream alive.

According to the organisers, all the group matches, will end on Monday. Two teams from each group will qualify for the semi final slated for Wednesday, July 24 at the Agege Stadium,  while the final will hold on Saturday, July 27.
