The residents of Ikotun/Igando Local  Council Development Area of Lagos expressed shocked over the manner the Council chairperson, Mrs. Morenikeji Adeshina Williams in the name of empowerment gave each student only one 40 leaves exercise book while the legislators got SUVs.

P.M EXPRESS reports that the cost of the exercise books shared to about 100 students present was about N60 each  while the Council Legislators got SUV worth millions of Naira as their own empowerment.

Some of the residents who attended the event walked out in annoyance while a few others stayed back till the end of the event that took place at the council’s secretariat in Ikotun. They said that the action was an insult to the residents who voted them into office and they were now serving themselves alone.

The event which witnessed the presence of traditional rulers, landlords and residents, was an opportunity for Mrs. Williams to enumerate her achievements since she took over as the council boss.

Some of the residents who were her supporters praised her and urged her to continue her good works until the empowerment programme started at the event.

Some women got grinding machines as part of their own empowerment until it was the time of the students who were asked to line up for the presentation of the note books. It was gathered that each student received one 40 leaves exercise book which prompted the protest at the event.

However, the situation got worse when the residents got information that Mrs. Williams had purchased SUVs for the legislators and they were parked inside the Council Secretariat. At that point some of the residents walked out in annoyance.

The residents who witnessed the empowerment programme said it was clear to them that those they elected were only interested in their collective interest and not the interest of the people that they were supposed to be representing.

However, some of her supporters said that the elected officers will have to take care of themselves before they will remember those who elected them.
