Light Up Ogun: Senator Yayi Facilitates Another 5,360 Solar Street Lights Across Ogun State

 

The Distinguished lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, has facilitated the delivery of another 5,360 solar street lights for communities across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State.

 

The consignment is expected to arrive in the state from Monday for immediate installation. It is part of a larger batch of 23,000 poles scheduled for delivery before the end of the year.

Announcing the development over the weekend, Senator Adeola, popularly called Yayi, said the new deployment is in continuation of his “Light Up Ogun State” initiative aimed at improving security, extending business hours and beautifying communities.

According to the breakdown:
– Ogun West: 1,900 poles
– Ogun East: 1,400 poles
– Ogun Central, including Abeokuta Township: 2,060 poles

“Communities and streets across Ogun State will feel the impact. We are determined to ensure no senatorial district is left behind in this phase,” the Senator stated.

Senator Adeola said the solar light project forms part of a broader energy intervention that also includes the supply and energization of transformers, as well as the rehabilitation and reactivation of electricity supply infrastructure across the state.

The initiative recently extended to Ogun Waterside LGA in Ogun East Senatorial District.

“I am committed to providing energy infrastructure to boost the supply of electricity for domestic and other economic uses. We are also going to tap into God-given solar energy to provide light for our people in their localities and streets of Ogun State,” he said.

“We intend to brighten the days and nights of our people and take them out of darkness of all sorts,” he added.

Senator Adeola noted that in the last three and a half years as Senator representing Ogun State, he has facilitated:
– Over 80,000 poles of solar street lights across Ogun State
– 332 transformers of different capacities supplied and energized
– 25 mini-grid installations in selected hospitals, churches and mosques

Stakeholders across the state have commended the intervention, saying the solar lights will improve night-time security, reduce accidents, and support small businesses that rely on late-night trading.

With the arrival of the new 5,360 poles, the “Light Up Ogun State” project is expected to gain further momentum as installation teams move into communities in the coming weeks.
